Endobronchial intubation technique and airway morbidity.

چکیده
airway morbidity Editor—We read the interesting article by Seo and colleagues about the study comparing two techniques of double-lumen endobronchial intubation. We have a few queries. First, the authors have not mentioned if any lubrication or softening technique was used to prepare the double-lumen tube (DLT) before placement to prevent airway morbidity. Secondly, the authors have not mentioned whether there was any correlation between Cormack and Lehane’s grading and resistance to pass the DLT. Thirdly, the authors discussed a better antero-posterior alignment at the level of vocal cords in the group 180 leading to decreased resistance to placement of DLT and subsequent less vocal cord morbidity, but what could be the possible reason for more sore throat in the group 90 in comparison with the group 180?

Continuous monitoring of dynamic pulmonary compliance enables detection of endobronchial intubation in infants and children.
BACKGROUND Auscultation of breath sounds is used routinely to confirm tracheal placement of endotracheal tubes (ETT). In infants and children, this method is limited by the conduction of breath sounds bilaterally, despite endobronchial intubation. Although several methods of detecting endobronchial intubation have been described, none is both simple and reliable. In this investigation, we deter...
متن کاملA novel combination of the Arndt endobronchial blocker and the laryngeal mask airway ProSeal™ provides one-lung ventilation for thoracic surgery
In this study, the feasibility and performance of the combination of the Arndt endobronchial blocker and the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) ProSeal™ in airway establishment, ventilation, oxygenation and lung isolation was evaluated. Fifty-five patients undergoing general anesthesia for elective thoracic surgeries were randomly allocated to group Arndt (n=26) or group double-lumen tube (DLT; n=29)....
متن کاملCase report: Unusual cause of difficulty in intubation and ventilation with asthmatic-like presentation of Endobronchial Tuberculosis
Endobronchial Tuberculosis is hazardous in causing circumferential narrowing of tracheobronchial tree despite the eradication of tubercle bacilli in the initial insult from Pulmonary Tuberculosis. They may present as treatment resistant bronchial asthma and pose challenge to airway management in the acute setting. We present a 25 year-old lady who was newly diagnosed bronchial asthma with a pas...
متن کاملAirway management in difficult mask ventilation with difficult intubation – A case report
Airway management difficulties continue to be problematic to the anaesthesiologists as it is the major cause for anaesthesia related morbidity and mortality. Difficult airway includes difficult intubation (DI), difficult mask ventilation (DMV) or both. Most of the anaesthesiologists concentrate on predicting difficult intubation, but give very little attention to difficult mask ventilation. Unp...

OBJECTIVES To assess submental route intubation as an alternative technique to a tracheostomy in the management of the airway in cranio-maxillofacial trauma, along with an assessment of its morbidity and complications. MATERIALS AND METHODS Submental intubation was performed in 17 patients who had maxillofacial panfacial trauma and management was done under general anesthesia during a period ...
